  • Alliance for GLBTQ Youth

    The Alliance is the only non-profit organization in the Miami-Dade County exclusively committed to providing prevention, early intervention social services, and youth enrichment activities to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (GLBTQ) youth and their families. This program is funded by the Children’s Trust of Miami-Dade.

  • ACT4ME – A non profit organization dedicated to distribute financial assistance to local families, whose children suffer developmental delays due to a neurological disorder and are in need of additional income to pay or supplement payment for the treatment and care of their child with special needs.
  • ARC – Advocates for and serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Visit their website to find a local chapter. South Florida’s local chapter is located at:

  • Agency for Persons with Disabilities – Provides supports for persons with developmental disabilities in Living, Learning, and Working in their Communities. The 6 qualifying disability categories are: Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Intellectual Disabiliy, Prader Willi, Spina Bifida, and an At Risk category.
  • CCDH – Miami-Dade County’s lead agency to plan, provide, coordinate, and arrange for services to individuals with disabilities and their families. Also provides financial assistance for emergencies, In-Home Support such as: respite or personal care assistance, and therapies.
  • Florida Alliance for Assistive Service and Technology – Dedicated to improve the quality of life for all Floridians with disabilities through advocacy and awareness activities that increase access to and acquisition of assistive services and technology. The South Florida Demonstration Center serves the following counties: Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward, Palm Beach, Collier, Hendry, Lee, and Charlotte.
  • The Florida Justice Institute, through their Volunteer Lawyers Project, offers pro bono legal services through its Volunteer Lawyers Project. They provides free representation relating to employment, housing and disability related discrimination, denial of public benefits, and denial of civil rights.
  • I.D.E.S. – Mailman Center for Child Development at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami provides clinical and evaluative services through a multidiciplinary team for children with disabilities. To better serve the military population in Florida, the University of Miami’s medical community is part of the TRICARE network of providers.
  • Legal Aid Services of Greater Miami – Legal Services of Greater Miami provides free civil legal services to the neediest individuals in our community. They provide high quality representation to clients with problems relating to housing, health care, education, disability benefits, family issues, and employment.
  • Legal Aid Society – Dade Legal Aid is a non-profit law firm that provides free legal services to qualifying low income residents of Miami-Dade County. It is a single organization with two components: in-house legal services and the Put Something Back pro bono program (where private sector attorneys are matched with clients in need across all areas of civil law. The agency specializes in: domestic violence, family law, guardianship, housing, bankruptcy, foreclosure, child advocacy and educating clients about consumer rights, fiscal literacy and responsibility.
  • Miami-Dade Parks and Recreation Services – In partnership with The Children’s Trust, they provide year round after school and seasonal camp programs for children of all disabilities from ages 6-21. Swim lessons, Junior Orange Bowl competition, fencing instruction are all also available. In addition, they offer an includion program whereby children with disabilities can participate in their general programs..
  • Parent to Parent of Miami – A Community Parent Resource Center serving parents of children with disabilities in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.
  • Research and Reform for Children in Court is a non-profit organization founded by Judge Cindy Lederman in 2008. Their mission is to develop linkages between academia, multidisciplinary experts and the juvenile court community by bringing science into the courtroom and promoting scientifically tested and proven practices, as well as the development and application of research about children and families in the dependency and delinquency systems.
  • Special Transportation Services (STS) is available for people with a physical, mental or intellectual disability who cannot ride Metrobus, Metrorail or Metromover. Any resident whose disability prevents them from riding regular transit vehicles qualifies for STS. Residents with temporary disabilities may also be eligible for this service.
  • Switchboard of Miami is a private, nonprofit organization that provides the Miami-Dade County community with comprehensive information and referral services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for people with and without disabilities.

Dade County assistance programs.

Find help with bills, rent, and emergency grants

Low and moderate income families can get assistance from the Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department. Immediately below is a list of the programs they offer, and at bottom is information on other charities and non-profits. The community action agency is a non-profit organization that is determined to help families and individuals by delivering services that assist low and moderate income individuals and families with short term needs and paying bills, and also help them gain self-sufficiency and economic independence over the long term by using a comprehensive list of programs that address a number of these individuals needs. The resources they offer are below.

  • Miami Dade County Community Action Agency’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
    This is a federally funded program that assists low and moderate income residents with paying their gas, heating, and electric bills. Also, if you are a customers who is in imminent danger of having your electrical services disconnected, you should contact the Care to Share Program, which is located at CAA Neighborhood Service Centers. Contact info is below.
  • Housing Assistance Network of Dade (HAND)
    The Miami Dade County Community Action Agency has various assistance programs that are available for individuals and families who are at risk of becoming homeless or who are currently homeless. It can provide temporary grants for paying rent or utility bill assistance to prevent them from becoming homeless or losing their utility service.
