Weekend workshops, which are voluntary, are held in prisons (Omaha & Lincoln) and the community (Lincoln). The national project began in the mid 1970\u2019s when a group of incarcerated men reached out in an effort to stem the violence in their prison. The project has been active in NE since 1997.<\/p>\n Center For People in Need<\/a><\/strong>:\u00a0 The Center For People In Need provides comprehensive services and opportunities to support low-income, high needs families and individuals as they strive to lift themselves out of poverty and achieve economic self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n Evangelical Lutheran Church in America<\/strong><\/a>: Through our Prison Ministry, The Evangelical Lutheran Church reaches out to help prisoners in the Nebraska State Penitentiary system to know the transformational love of Jesus Christ. The Synod\u2019s prison ministry has touched countless lives and helped provide much needed spiritual support to those who have participated, particularly those who transition back from prison life to society at large.<\/p>\n Mental Health Association of Nebraska<\/strong><\/a>:\u00a0 The Mental Health Association of Nebraska (MHA-NE) is a consumer-run, voluntary not-for-profit statewide association located in Lincoln, Nebraska. MHA-NE brings together service recipients, families, professionals, advocates and concerned citizens to address all aspects of mental health and mental illness.\u00a0 We focus on more than Mental health as well.\u00a0 Our focus is behavioral health which includes substance abuse. Or any self-identified or diagnosed issues we do not require proof. We also offer programming. The H.O.P.E program offers supported employment to people coming out of prison or\u00a0within 18 months<\/span><\/span>. The R.E.A.L program offers outreach and on going peer support to those coming out or\u00a0within 18 months<\/span><\/span>\u00a0of release and then Honu home offers an up to 90 day stay completely free to the person while they obtain and maintain employment and secure their own safe affordable housing. We also have a benefits programs assisting those who need to reinstate benefits and or apply.<\/p>\n Nebraska Aftercare In Action<\/a><\/strong>:\u00a0 A non-profit 501(c)3 that trains and supports teams of 4 \u2013 6 caring, interested community members to work with people recently released from incarceration to help them become reintegrated to society. The teams provide support in finding housing, employment, transportation and other needs as the released person works to become a productive contributing member or society.<\/p>\n New Visions Community Church<\/strong><\/a>:\u00a0New Visions Community, United Methodist, is currently not a hiring resource but we do support persons who are re-entering society.\u00a0 The mission of New Visions Community: As individuals and as a community, we focus on the needs of the world and hope to change lives.\u00a0 We provide a Safe Haven program that offers each week a place to gather with persons who are compassionate and not judgmental. We listen and share, play games, provide snacks & drinks, have art materials for expression and, occasionally, watch sports on TV in a safe and sober environment. The program is every Saturday from 6:30-9:30pm at our St. James site, 2400 S. 11th St., Lincoln.<\/p>\n We also have a free clothing, toys and small household items program at our Calvary site, 1610 S. 11th St., Lincoln. We welcome all who wish to join us.<\/p>\n Prairie Gold Homes<\/strong><\/a>:\u00a0 A nonprofit 501 (c)3 that, in conjunction with the Nebraska Department of Corrections, helps inmates gain job skills and become productive citizens while building affordable, energy-efficient housing for our communities. Students are trained in basic carpentry skills, safe power tool use and much more. They receive certified OSHA, First Aid and AED training. They build a single-family home from the ground-up. After construction training, they attend a 2-week Life Skills class, where they learn the basics of creating resumes, interviewing, etc.<\/p>\n Released and Restored<\/strong><\/a>: Provides inmates and ex-offenders in Nebraska with the tools and support systems needed to learn how to live productive, moral, ethical and legal lives in our communities.
