{"id":3214,"date":"2022-03-14T11:59:29","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T15:59:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sexoffenderonestopresource.com\/florida\/?p=3214"},"modified":"2022-03-14T11:59:29","modified_gmt":"2022-03-14T15:59:29","slug":"nursing-home-background-check-bill-sees-strong-opposition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sexoffenderonestopresource.com\/florida\/nursing-home-background-check-bill-sees-strong-opposition\/","title":{"rendered":"Nursing home background-check bill sees strong opposition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"et_post_meta_wrapper\">\n<p class=\"post-meta\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>A bill that would require long-term care facilities to check if prospective residents have a criminal history or are on the sex offender registry before they are admitted drew some heated opposition Wednesday from organizations representing providers and an advocate for abolishing the sex offender registry.<\/p>\n<p>At one point, Anwar and\u00a0Cindy Prizio, executive director One Standard of Justice, an advocate for restorative justice practices and a critic of the sex offender registry, got into a heated argument about the bill after she called it \u201ca public policy disaster in the making\u201d during\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cga.ct.gov\/2022\/PHdata\/Tmy\/2022SB-00254-R000309-Prizio,%20Cindy-One%20Standard%20of%20Justice-TMY.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">her testimony<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease don\u2019t allow one sensational crime to turn good intentions into bad policy,\u201d Prizio said. \u201cWe all want to protect our vulnerable populations.
