{"id":1044,"date":"2024-06-28T11:54:19","date_gmt":"2024-06-28T15:54:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sexoffenderonestopresource.com\/mississippi\/?p=1044"},"modified":"2024-06-28T11:54:19","modified_gmt":"2024-06-28T15:54:19","slug":"mississippi-continues-to-struggle-with-its-sodomy-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sexoffenderonestopresource.com\/mississippi\/mississippi-continues-to-struggle-with-its-sodomy-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Mississippi continues to struggle with its sodomy law"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"et_post_meta_wrapper\">\n<h1 class=\"entry-title\">Mississippi continues to struggle with its sodomy law<\/h1>\n<p class=\"post-meta\"><span class=\"published\">Jun 25, 2024<\/span> |<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>The word sodomy can have different meanings for different people.\u00a0 It should be googled for people who are not sure of its meaning as the author of this post is not willing to put it in print.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of how one feels about it, the Mississippi Legislature is struggling to bring this law up to the 21st\u00a0century.\u00a0 Sodomy has been illegal in Mississippi since the state\u2019s founding and was codified into law in 1839.\u00a0 This law is long overdue for some changes if not invalidated.<\/p>\n<p>Mississippi\u2019s law is vague and does not distinguish between some types of consensual and nonconsensual sexual acts, with the idea of consent now being so important in our courts.<\/p>\n<p>Why can\u2019t the Mississippi Legislators do the job they were elected to do: give the people of Mississippi constitutional laws?<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2019s legal code still recognizes a statute criminalizing consensual sodomy; however, this state\u2019s sodomy law has been rendered unenforceable by a U.S. Supreme Court ruling (<a href=\"https:\/\/supreme.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/us\/539\/558\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lawrence v.
