Resources for Nonprofits and Small Businesses

The Community Foundation was created to help support our local nonprofit network. These organizations serve as the ‘boots on the ground’ to help Mendocino County thrive. During the COVID-19 crisis, our dedication to our nonprofit partners remains strong. While we too are being impacted by this crisis, we are continually seeking opportunities to help our local partners weather this storm.

We would also like to express our gratitude to the West Business Development Center and the California Association of Nonprofits for sharing these resources. Together we will thrive.

From the West Business Development Center

As the number of California cases of COVID-19 rises and your business is impacted, the team at West Business Development Center is here to help. We are your local SBA Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Mendocino Women’s Business Center (WBC).

Sheltering in place is the most important thing you can do right now, but we know you are worried about your business and your future. That is why our advisers are available to help by phone and video calls to answer the questions you need answered.

Because of the fluidity of the situation, we are updating this page on a daily basis with detailed accurate information your need for your business. Come back often as information changes and take some time to attend our free ongoing webinars.

Information and Resources to Help Your Business

We are your local SBA Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Mendocino Women’s Business Center (WBC) resource. In 2020, Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. It’s an estimated $2 trillion package, which specifically allots $10 Billion for Economic Injury Disaster Loans and $350 billion for Paycheck Protection Loans (more on those below) to help small businesses.

Paid Family Leave provides up to eight weeks of benefit payments to eligible workers who have a full or partial loss of wages because they need time off work to care for an ill or quarantined family member with COVID-19 (certified by a medical professional). Employees may file a Paid Family Leave (PFL) claim.

UI Work Sharing Program is available for employers experiencing a slowdown in their businesses or services as a result of the Coronavirus impact. This program allows employers to seek an alternative to layoffs. See video instructions to learn how to file for unemployment insurance benefits.

Individuals who are unable to work due to having or being exposed to COVID-19 (certified by a medical professional) can file a Disability Insurance (DI) claim.

Governor Proclaimed State of Emergency

Governor Gavin Newsom declared a State of Emergency to make additional resources available, formalize emergency actions already underway across multiple state agencies and departments, and help the state prepare for broader spread of COVID-19.

The emergency proclamation includes provisions that protect consumers against price gouging, allow for health care workers to come from out of state to assist at health care facilities, and give health care facilities the flexibility to plan and adapt to accommodate incoming patients. View a copy of the emergency proclamation.

Mendocino County Public Health Information
